I just thought that this may be of some interest to Yamaha MY16-mLAN users. Please forgive me if this is 'old news' A couple of days ago I found this on MLAN Central: It concerns the current lack of a proper 64 bit driver for Windows Vista 64 and some Yamaha mLAN products like the MY16-mLAN card that fits the Yamaha 01v96v2/VCM amongst other mixers and effectively turns the mixer into a 16 channel firewire audio interface for use with Cubase amongst other DAW packages. There has been a 64 bit driver for Windows XP 64 since 2006. This driver can be made to 'sort-of' work with Windows Vista 64, as i found a couple of months or so ago and for me at mixdown time in Cubase it worked reasonably well in Vista 64 (in enforced test mode so that unsigned drivers can be loaded) playing back pre-recorded tracks, but as far as getting audio into Cubase it was a no-go in Vista 64. Then I found someone else had been playing with the RC of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and had made the XP 64 mLAN driver operate reasonably correctly, so I also gave it a try on two machines that had failed to work with the driver and my MY16-mLAN card in Vista 64, but with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit RC1, and it definitely works pretty well with audio both in and out. The two machines I have tried are both Intel based, with the less powerful one having an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU, Asus PW5-DH- Deluxe motherboard, 4GB RAM nVidia 7300 graphics card, TI chipset IEEE1394 interface, and the more powerful one being based on an Intel Core i7 920 CPU with 6GB RAM, Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4 motherboard, nVidia 9600GT graphics card, TI chipset IEEE1394 interface. The lower spec machine can be a bit glitchy with a reasonably low i/o latency to the MY16-mLAN set in Cubase through the mLAN card's driver control panel, but with the i7 there's no such glitchiness so far.

Anyhow, the original poster of the thread on MLAN Central's forums has documented the method he's used for getting everything working, and I can verfiy his claim that it works. MLan has installed completely and able to see the mixer but there are various communications issues. I am using my onboard VIA firewire, things might improve with a proper mLan certified TI card, who knows???? I do have one but it will not fit on this motherboard so I will have to test it on my main computer when I get round to adding another disk so I can install windows 7.
